Apparently, Fred Thompson told USA Today that he intends to run for President. A well-known Hollywood actor and former Senator, this Republican has tossed his hat into a crowded Republican field. Hey, haven't we already lived through this? Rewind 27 years and that man's name was Ronald Regan. Love him or hate him, we already did this and look where we are today. Hmm, is America a better country today than it was then?
Remember the famous "War on Drugs" and the answer to the whole drug problem... "Just Say No." Yes, it is just that easy!!! Look, no more drug addicts!!! But wait... uh, no. It's not that easy. There are tons of people addicted to crack, heroin, Oxycontin, and the new scourge, methamphetamine. Issues such as drug addiction are more complicated to solve than with a slogan of "Just Say No!" The world is not black and white, but full of subtle shades of gray. Being able to see and understand this is just the beginning to understanding and solving some of the problems we face.
People are only entitled to the best government that they elect. Let us sincerely hope that we are smarter this time around.

Gaming on the Internet
My favorite site, bar none, is Worldwinner. Everything addictive is there - Bejewelled, Chuzzle, Zuma, Luxor, Tile City (Mah Jong), Scrabble - and so much more. The best thing is, you can play everything for free and practice.
If you actually do set up a cash account, Worldwinner has a reward system, much like the casinos. The beautiful thing is once you spend your $10.00 (and get double matched usually - so you play with $30.00 to start with), continue to sign in everyday and utilize their free play game of the day. You will continue to accumulate reward points every day. Considering that to earn just one reward point you usually have to spend a dollar, but you receive a minimum of 20 reward points by playing the two free play games of the day, it doesn't take a genius to realize that this is a good thing if you are going to be playing games on the computer anyway. Additionally, on the weekends and on holidays, they have promotions with the reward points. Just this past Memorial Day, Saturday was 5x reward points (making free play for the day 100 points), Sunday was 10x reward points (200 free play reward points) and Monday was 15x reward points (300 free play reward points!)
So far, I have enough reward points to cash in for a $15.00 Amazon gift card, but I'm going to keep saving. I saw a $100 gift card in the reward store and I figure, I have time.

Blowback and Ron Paul
The American people find themselves with a war they really do not want. We were sold this war on a bunch of lies and now find ourselves tangled in a spider's web. The more we involve ourselves, the more difficult it seems to extricate ourselves.
What we as a people need to understand is that the United State government has created this situation. I invite you to look at this chronology of US involvement in Iraq and ask yourself this one question, if the US had not supplied Iraq with weapons starting in 1983 (in violation of the Arms Export Control Act), and then continued with its deadly dance with Saddam Hussein, would we be here today? Personally I think not.
The only candidate with the courage to say the same thing is Republican Ron Paul.
Although, I was more impressed with his performance on Bill Maher and in the Republican debates. Why? Although not polished, the man doesn't play to the crowd for applause. He sticks to his guns, sticks to his principles and actually makes sense. I may not agree with him 100% on everything, but I have to respect the message.

I haven't decided 100% if I will support the man, but I will say this, it sure is refreshing to hear a politician speaking the truth, for once!
To read more about his positions, visit his campaign site.

A Cure for Alzheimer's Disease?
"The active ingredient of marijuana could be considerably better at suppressing the abnormal clumping of malformed proteins that is a hallmark of Alzheimer's than any currently approved drugs prescribed for the treatment of the disease" is the first sentence from this article over at LiveScience. Scientists know that THC doesn't allow for the formation of the plaques which is the hallmark of Alzheimer's. THC is "significantly" better at disrupting the formation of these plaques than donepezil and tacrine which are the two drugs currently approved for treatment of the disease.
So, why aren't we using THC or even just good old marijuana to combat this devastating disease? Because we don't want people getting high. Yes, it is as simple as that. We, as a society, have decided that it is better that people fade away into the twilight of not knowing loved ones, not knowing what day it is or what type of clothes to wear rather than give them synthetic THC which would give them a high or allow them to use medicinal marijuana, again giving them a high, but it would allow them to retain their minds. For as the LiveScience article states: heavy marijuana use may "... impair memory, decision making, and the ability to pay attention to more than one thing at a time." Somehow, I don't think these side effects are worse than the effects of Alzheimer's itself. These abilities are stolen by the disease whereas marijuana may impair them temporarily. That is a very large difference and one would think scientists would grasp that concept.
Allow me to provide more scientific data to back up my initial statement that marijuana may provide a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Scientific evidence:
Study in Spain on Rats from 2005
Science Daily 2006 Report on Effectiveness of THC on Symptoms and Progression of Alzheimer's
I think it is far past time to stop the nonsense surrounding marijuana. There are plenty of health benefits to the weed. Caffeine, alcohol and tobacco are all legal and none of these substances have any medicinal benefits to them. Marijuana is illegal and has medicinal value. There is definitely something wrong here in this country and it needs to be fixed. Just because Big Pharma cannot make a ton of money off of a weed does not mean the American people should be denied the right to use it, whether it be for recreation or for medicinal uses.
Feedback is very welcome.
