Instability: You Think Gas Prices Are High?

Reported on CNN's website this headline four hours, 55 minutes ago:

Riots, instability spread as food prices skyrocket

Kind of scary stuff if you ask me. This is the link to the article, so please read it so we all know what I am talking about here.

This gist of it is that we are in serious trouble. All of us and that means TPTB* (The Powers that Be aka the various governments and other semi-quasi whatever agencies that control money and power in various countries) as well, are in huge trouble if large portions of the entire planet begin starving. No one can control starving people. No one can predict what starving people will do.

It is also just fundamentally not right to do this to other human beings. We, the United States of America, are funding a war in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is wildly unpopular. We respect the people of those countries and their fundamental RIGHT TO GOVERN THEMSELVES.

Perhaps if we opened dialog with countries that we had ideological differences with and said can we agree that we all have the same fundamental right to exist here on this same planet? If we all have the same fundamental right to exist, then no one may hurt or kill another even in the name of religion. For if we have the right to exist then nothing may compel us to harm another human. That must be the fundamental first thing that all must learn and internalize. Harming another is harming oneself.

Throughout recorded history there has been nothing but war and blood in the name of religion, which is supposed to be holy and sacred. That which is holy and sacred would not demand or ask blood of its children. It would be gentle and kind, merciful and forgiving, like any good parent would be. No good parent would want to see a child suffer, never mind millenniums of war all in said parent's name instead of humble kindness and mercy always tempered with tolerance and understanding. The light of goodness does not have to be so difficult.

People can agree to disagree once they have agreed on one fundamental thing: we all have the right to exist.

So, now what do we do about these starving people? Because if we don't do something, it will be us next.

Because fundamentally feeding another is feeding yourself.
